In Spain, ENTR® smart door locks make it easier for people with disabilities to live independently

More and more people with disabilities choose to live in their own homes. This creates new challenges for domestic design: the “standard” set-up for a residence includes several barriers to independent living. And the biggest barrier of all? The front door. An ENTR® smart door lock can remove that barrier, and help carers, cleaners and family members to get convenient access more easily than with mechanical keys.

As part of a mission to promote universal accessibility, Spain’s ONCE Foundation collaborated with leading home automation manufacturers to create an intelligent, accessible home adapted to people with diverse needs.

This smart home was built inside a lorry and toured 14 Spanish cities to promote universal accessibility. It attracted an audience of architects, construction professionals, interior designers and others interested in forward-looking, sustainable accessibility solutions (find out more at www.lacasaaccesible.es).

The project required several leading brands to integrate their technology and solutions seamlessly. The Elea-Open smart home solution from ELEA Soluciones — an engineering company specializing in technical solutions for the health market — and the ENTR® smart door lock were the perfect match for the ONCE Foundation. Their integrated solution succeeded in breaking down many accessibility barriers for people with reduced mobility.

ENTR® makes access through the front door easy and comfortable. All its elements are wireless, and work not only with Bluetooth but also with EnOcean®, a low consumption technology that enables devices to work without batteries.

Thanks to integration with the secure, convenient Elea-Open smart home solution, ENTR® automates the door so it is no longer an obstacle for people with disabilities. Most importantly, the ENTR® lock enables a resident to open their door without exerting any force, using a remote controller or the integrated Elea-Open app. It’s possible to open or close the door remotely from mobile devices like a smartphone or tablet. There’s no need to carry cumbersome mechanical keys, nor even to push the door. It closes automatically behind you, too. With Elea-Open integration, it’s also easy to check door status anytime and from anywhere, or to configure an incident alert.

ENTR® helps make life easier

An ENTR® lock removes the need to get keys cut for a cleaner, carer or family member: you can let them in using the Elea-Open app, from anywhere and with a smartphone, tablet or other connected device. With digital keys, there’s no risk someone can make a physical copy. A digital key can be instantly revoked if it falls into the wrong hands.

ENTR® installation is also quick and easy. It takes just one screw to fit an ENTR® to the existing mechanical lock, with no drilling or cabling needed. After installation, the ENTR® integrates with the Elea-Open system via an encrypted Bluetooth or EnOcean® connection — another boost to convenience and home security for disabled people who wish to live independently.

About the ONCE Foundation: Founded in 1988 to promote social inclusion through work integration and improving accessibility, the ONCE Foundation advocates for universal accessibility as an essential precondition of equal opportunities for those living with disabilities.
