Gira, one of the world’s leading full-range suppliers of intelligent system solutions for building management graced the winners podium at the Smart Solutions Awards 2018 to win ‘Best Smart Tool & Equipment’ for its pioneering room operating device for KNX & eNet, Gira G1.
The Smart Solutions Awards took place on Wednesday 10th October 2018 as part of UK Construction Week within the Digital Construction Hub at NEC, Birmingham.
Keeping company amongst the industries finest, Gira scooped ‘Best Smart Tool & Equipment’ Smart Solutions Award for 2018, outperforming its fellow finalists with its Gira G1 to take home the win: collected by Steven Parr, Specification Manager, Gira UK.
The Awards were judged by an independent expert panel where all finalists were revealed at the show and a candidate for highly-commended and ultimate winner of each category were announced by BBC News Reader, Steph McGovern.
The Smart Solutions Awards now in its 2nd year, champions integrators and installers who have demonstrated project excellence, along with recognition for manufacturers who develop market leading products and services, as well as provide training opportunities that help facilitate the growth of the smart solutions sector.

The Gira G1 is specifically designed for the KNX system, all the functions can be conveniently operated via the brilliant multi-touch TFT colour display which is sharper and brighter than a common LCD display: it refreshes more quickly to deliver better contrast and bypass any motion blur.
The brilliant 6” TFT colour display has a resolution of 480x800 pixels and 155ppi to guarantee extremely clear images, graphics and text are realised. Easily legible from every viewing angle, the G1 utilises the Gira Interface: a completely new development which features a user-friendly control system with large fonts and easy-to-understand symbols.
The newly developed and highly intuitive Gira Interface makes even time-controlled programming of automatic functions or the creation of comprehensive scenes as easy as 1-2-3. You can now programme and save personal settings in just a few easy steps and should you want to modify or change your preferences at any time, you can with the same level of ease.
The display has been designed to automatically detect when someone approaches. This integrated proximity sensor is able to switch its display on automatically. When not in use, the display is switched off to offer an energy-efficient solution that can resourcefully reduce running costs.
Combine the Gira DCS IP Gateway & Door station video and the Gira G1 system and it can be used as a complete home station. From adjusting lighting and blinds, setting the room temperature, and online weather forecasting to door communication, the Gira G1 can be used to control many building technology functions intuitively. The addition of a speaker and microphone inconspicuously integrated into the housing unit ensures that there is always clear communication between the interior and exterior of a building.
Select high quality materials underline the design and performance of Gira G1. Its continuous front panel is made of scratch-resistant, 1mm special glass which is precision bonded form a single housing unit. A high-quality metal frame which houses the glass fibre-reinforced holding frame gives the new Gira G1 an attractive appearance and permanent stability.
