Launch of new Desigo Essentials Modbus I/O modules from Siemens

Siemens has announced the release of its Desigo Essentials Extension Modules to complement the existing TXM Module range and offer customers greater choice and flexibility.

They can be used with any Modbus compatible controller, including the Connect Box and the PXC4/5/7 automation level controllers. They can be directly integrated using the ABT software to the Modbus port(s) of the PXC controllers from Siemens.

There are three variants:

  • EM1.8D: 8 digital inputs
  • EM1.8R: 8 relay outputs (NO contacts)
  • EM1.8U: 8 universal inputs and outputs (resistive and analogue inputs/outputs or digital inputs, configurable)

Though they maintain the look and feel of the existing modules, they are smaller and easy to configure, with no software required to setup. They also offer the potential for cost efficiencies, enabling connections with datapoints to be made more easily, a particular advantage in more remote areas of a building. They require a 24V AC or DC supply.

They can also be used in conjunction with Desigo Optic, a BMS platform specifically designed to offer an open, powerful and scalable software solution for one to many buildings of any size. It features a ‘single pane of glass’ interface to visualise and control HVAC, lighting and energy performance functions with a market leading dashboard builder.

Desigo Optic brings the latest IoT technology to applications such as schools, sports facilities, smaller hotels and retail outlets. It enables optimisation of a building’s efficiency and comfort, provides the opportunity to reduce costs and allows a streamlining of performance.
